Hydroxyprolin
General information:
An amino acid that is the main component of collagen in bones. Higher concentrations are excreted in the urine as collagen breaks down. Its values are variable, depending on age. It increases in Paget's disease, hyperparathyroidism, psoriasis, acromegaly, burns. According to some authors, hydroxyproline can be used as a tumor marker for lymphomas, breast cancer, metastatic prostate cancer.
