General Information:

Depending on your complaints, the physician may prescribe cervical secretion. The material is taken with a pad and brought to the microbiological culture laboratory and microscopic examination of the preparation. In the presence of a positive result of microbiological testing, it is necessary to determine the sensitivity of isolated microorganisms to drugs (antibacterial, antimycotic) in order to select the most appropriate treatment for the particular patient. This ensures the success of the treatment.

Cervical secretion is mainly investigated for suspected gonococcal and chlamydial infection. Transport media (Amies, Stuart) are not recommended for chlamydial DNA testing.

Sample Required:

The material is taken by a specialist using a speculum. It is not recommended to use antiseptics and gels during the study because they can suppress microorganisms. Once speculum is introduced, cervical mucus should be cleansed by portio cervix uteri. The swab is inserted into the cervical canal and rotated for 10 seconds and then carefully removed.
It is desirable not to have antibiotic treatment (at least 7-8 days) before taking secretion, not to make vaginal showers and topical treatment for at least 48-72 hours.
