Campylobacter jejuni - feces
General information:
Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli are established as one of the most common causes of gastroenterocolitis in the world.
Campylobacteriosis is gastrointestinal food poisoning caused by an infection with bacteria called campylobacter jejuni. It is one of the most common causes of diarrhea.
Most often, people get sick by consuming contaminated food and drink, eating poorly cooked poultry, drinking unboiled or unpasteurized milk.
Since the bacterium lives primarily in birds, humans can also become infected through close contact with birds. Infection from another person is also possible. Both require poor hygiene.
Infections caused by Campylobacter jejuni are transmitted mainly through the food route, as the source of Campylobacter infection is birds, animals and animal products.
As with diseases caused by other intestinal bacteria, the clinical picture varies from asymptomatic or with mild symptoms to a pronounced clinical manifestation. The incubation period is from 3 to 5 days. Campylobacter enteritis is more often febrile, possibly with or with all of the listed symptoms: headache, dizziness, back pain, myalgia, vomiting. The stools are watery, green in color, sometimes with mucus and blood
