Mycoplasma pneumonie IgM
General information:
Mycoplasma pneumonia is an infection of the lungs caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae. It refers to the so-called atypical pneumonias. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is an intracellular parasite. Contagion occurs by air-droplet route. It occurs as pneumonia, acute catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, pharyngitis, etc.. The incubation period is one to two weeks. Specific antibodies of the IgM class are demonstrated 4 days after the onset of the disease, and those of the IgG class a few days later. Since antibiotic treatment for these infections is specific (beta-lactam antibiotics cannot be used), rapid and accurate diagnosis is of utmost importance.
The following are being investigated:
-
Mycoplasma Pneumoniae IgM – an indicator of acute infection
-
Mycoplasma Pneumoniae IgG – past infection. They stay in the body for years.
