Hepatitis A (HAV) IgM
General Information:
Viral hepatitis A is a typical gastrointestinal infection. The source of the infection is only the sick man. The infection is usually transmitted through contaminated water or food.
Hepatitis A is caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV), which is one of the three most common causes of viral hepatitis (the other two are hepatitis B and C viruses). The virus is extremely resistant to external conditions.
Unlike other forms of viral hepatitis, hepatitis A usually runs mildly to moderate and its duration is not great; a distinctive feature of this disease is that it generally does not chronic (ie it does not last long and does not remain constant with periods of exacerbation and subsidence).
Anti-hepatitis A antibodies-IgM is a marker for fresh infection. It is also appropriate to test the liver enzymes (ASAT, ALAT and Gama GT), bilirubin and urine-general chemistry.
