General information:

AGMAs are associated with autoimmune chronic hepatitis. Autoimmune chronic hepatitis is a progressive liver disease characterized by a constellation of clinical, laboratory and histological findings. Typically, there is an asymmetry between highly elevated transaminases and relatively low, inconsistent levels of bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase. However, if the latter is highly elevated, an alternative diagnosis should most often be sought. Most often the patients are women. Another autoimmune disease is often present.
