General information:

Gives information about the development and functions of the gonads (ovaries in women and testes in men). The determination of LH is used to clarify functional disorders related to the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal system (ovaries/testicles). It is often used to determine ovulation - it occurs 24 to 36 hours after the increase in the amount of Luteinizing hormone. This is on average 14 days before the end of the cycle and lasts 1-2 days, after which the level of the hormone drops. It is used in the diagnosis of diseases caused by hormonal disorders - ovarian failure, premature menopause in women, hypogonadism in men. The determination of LH together with FSH is used in the following indications: congenital genetic diseases (Turner's syndrome), polycystic ovaries, to clarify the causes of amenorrhea, menopausal syndrome and suspected Leydig cell insufficiency.
