General information:

Provides information on the serum concentration of Inhibin B enables a new approach in determining ovarian reserve (ovarian reserve characterizes the ability of the ovary to respond to gonadotropin stimulation by producing a sufficient number of good quality oocytes from which to develop normal embryos). The hormone inhibin is a glycoprotein. It is synthesized by the granulosa cells of the ovarian follicle. Its secretion from large or dominant follicles is 10 times higher than that of smaller sized follicles. In men of reproductive age, Inhibin B is primarily secreted by Sertoli cells. Unlike AMH, Inhibin B values are affected by the phase of the monthly cycle. This is because this hormone is involved in hypothalamic-pituitary regulation, it is highest in the follicular phase and then decreases.
