Cortisol is a steroid hormone glucocorticoid that is synthesized in the adrenal cortex. Glucocorticoid secretion (cortisol) is stimulated by the pituitary hormone ACTH. Cortisol is also known as stress hormone, as its values ​​increase in a state of stress.
Cortisol has anabolic and catabolic functions in the body. It participates in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and fats.
