General information:

Information on 17-hydroxyprogesterone levels.
This hormone is mainly produced in the cortex of the adrenal glands and to some extent in the gonads, in particular the yellow body of the ovary. Normally, its levels in women of reproductive age are lower before ovulation and increase in the luteal phase.
Measurements of 17-hydroxyprogesterone levels are useful in suspected congenital adrenal hyperplasia (adrenogenital syndrome): enzymatic defects of 21-hydroxylase and 11β-hydroxylase. These enzyme defects lead to accumulation and elevation of 17-hydroxyprogesterone levels.

SAMPLE REQUIRED:

Venous blood in the morning in fasting
