General information:

Fibrinogen is a factor (factor I) in the blood clotting process. It is produced in the liver and accounts for about 5% of all plasma proteins.

Determination of fibrinogen is important in patients with problematic blood clotting, bleeding, thrombosis and pathological results from other coagulation tests. Fibrinogen is an indicator of inflammation (increases in the acute phase of inflammation) as well as a single risk factor.
