General Information:

The lipase is a digestive enzyme secreted mainly by the pancreas (the pancreas) and involved in fat breakdown.

Lipase elevation in serum is a specific marker for acute pancreatic damage - acute pancreatitis (acute inflammation of the pancreas). When developing this disease state, the number of lipase increases within four to six hours. The amount of enzyme reaches peak values for one day and maintains this value for about two weeks. Elevated enzyme levels can also be seen in other pancreatic diseases.
