LDH LACTATE - PYRUVATE
General information:
This enzyme is involved in energetic metabolism. It can be found in almost all cells in body-most high levels are in heart muscule, kidneys, liver, lungs.
It is analysed in cases of tissue damage, liver and hematological diseases. It can also be used as a marker for the progression of a disease process: staging, prognosis, response to treatment in certain types of cancer.
Higher levels of LDH are signal for cell damage in different diseases:
- hemolytic anemia
- megaloblastic and pernicious anemia
- infectious mononucleosis
- meningitis, encephalitis, HIV
- sepsis
- acute renal failure
- acute liver failure
- wound
- fracture
- lymphomas, testis's cancer
- pancreatitis
Sometimes LDH levels can be changed without serious conditions:
- physical overload
- hemolysis
- patients with increased platelet levels
