General Information:

Creatinine is one of the most important indicators of renal function assessment. Creatinine production depends on muscle mass. Accordingly, the levels by men are slightly higher than women and children. Its circulating blood level is relatively constant. Creatinine is excreted from the blood almost entirely by filtration through the glomeruli of the kidney (glomerulus is the basic functional unit of the kidney). Therefore, it serves as an indicator of their function. The degree of creatinine emission is also influenced by age.

Adrenal factors (eg, protein intake with food) have a negligible effect on serum creatinine, so it is believed that the study gives a much more accurate idea of kidney function than urea. Serum creatinine levels give an idea not so much about the early, initial kidney damage as the degree and stage of chronic renal failure. Serum creatinine values are dependent on the study method.
