General information:

Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) is a polypeptide that is produced in the anterior pituitary gland and stimulates the production of hormones in the adrenal cortex.

The ACTC study is used in the diagnosis of hypercorticism; adrenal or pituitary insufficiency; pituitary adenomas secreting ACTH; ectopic secretion of ACTH and so on.

The secretion of ACTH is stimulated by the corresponding liberin from the hypothalamus, and it is also intensely secreted in all stressful states - nervous and physical stress, trauma, acute infection, life-threatening situations, etc., and is part of changes in the body bearing the name common adaptation syndrome. Apart from the hypothalamus, its secretion is also regulated by the level of adrenal cortical hormones (glucocorticoids) under the mechanism of negative feedback.
