General Information:

This test measures both TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) and T4 (Thyroxine). TSH is produced by the pituitary gland and aids the thyroid gland in producing T4. Because the production of these 2 hormones is linked, they are often evaluated together. Abnormal TSH or Free T4 levels can be caused by disorders which affect the thyroid gland. There are virious symptoms of thyroid disorders, the most common ones include anxiety, irregular weight gain or loss, insomnia, diarrhea, constipation, irritation or sensitivity in the eyes, increased heart rate, dry skin, hair loss, and menstrual irregularity in women.
