M2-PK (M2 PYRUVATE KINASE) – QUALITATIVE DETECTION

TUMOR M2 PK – FECES

Immunochromatographic qualitative test to determine the presence of the tumor marker M2 – Pyruvate kinase (PK). M2 - Pyruvate kinase (PK) is a form of the enzyme pyruvate kinase which is a key enzyme in the metabolism of cancer cells. The main application of the test is screening for colon cancer, colorectal polyps, irritable bowel syndrome. These and other malignancies can produce elevated PK levels. Increased levels of M2 - PK are also found in other cancers – of the kidney, lung, mammary glands, cervix and digestive system, as well as in melanoma.

Pyruvate kinase is a key enzyme in glucose metabolism. The active form of the enzyme contains 4 identical subunits and in M2-PK, two of them are lost, turning the enzyme into a dimer of two weakly active subunits. This dimer is detected in large quantities in the presence of tumor processes in the body.
